Behavior
Deep Maggot is an enemy found in Mine World. It attacks by shooting a red circular beam of light, similar to Robe Caster's, but the projectile moves faster. Before it attacks, it emerges from the ground and targets the player. It usually appears within 5-10 blocks of the player. After its attack, it will dig into the ground, and disappear. After that, it will emerge in a (usually) different location. Deep Maggot's projectile deals high knockback,* which can lead to you being knocked into another enemy, or a Lava block. The Deep Maggot is more of a nuisance than a real threat, but when being swarmed by enemies, its knockback becomes a real threat.
*You can avoid taking knockback by equipping the level 130 perk Immovable.
Tips/Tricks
- Every time the Deep Maggot appears, it will trigger the Deep Dweller shoes, Excavator boots, and/or Mouse tail.
- The Deep Maggot will emit two sounds. One as it emerges, and a second when it shoots. When you hear the second sound, be prepared to dodge the projectile.
- The AI on the Deep Maggot is very poor, and does not anticipate your movement well. It is designed to hit you if you stood perfectly still. The projectile is the most threat when it's being shot horizontally, where it has the biggest chance of hitting you. Be sure to remember that the projectile does not collide with blocks, and will instead pass through them.
- The Deep Maggot's hitbox lingers even after it's disappeared into the ground, for about a half second, so you have more time to defeat it than you might think. The same is true as it's emerging from the ground.
- When in a swarm situation, dealing with multiple enemies, Deep Maggots are the first enemy you should target. Its projectile would likely knock you into other enemies, dealing high damage and potentially killing you.
- It is very easy to find and defeat the Deep Maggot through usage of the Pendant of brightness, and the Pendant of the moment, as both make the lighting of the mine brighter, but only when your Light meter is not empty.
- The projectile's hitbox is a bit larger than the projectile itself, so be sure to jump higher or dig deeper than you think you need to avoid it.
- Basic Pickaxe, Sturdy Pickaxe, Heavy Pickaxe, Master Pickaxe, Epic Pickaxe, and Dark Pickaxe can one-shot Deep Maggots using a flask of rage, or the perk Heavy Hit.
